Billy Ray Cyrus is no Ebenezer Scrooge, and he proves why as the holidays roll by this year.  The Hannah Montana star and musician has been all around the country reaching out to others, and its his busy schedule that really is admirable.

Other than starring in the holiday TV flick Christmas in Canaan, the musician will also get involved in a number of events within the month.  First off, he’s been invited to take part in a tree lighting ceremony at the Big Apple, which is something to look forward to.

The public is invited to watch as Billy Ray Cyrus joins David Nail in illuminating the Christmas tree in front of the New York Stock Exchange.  The festivities will kick off on Thursday, December 10 in NYC.  The two will be having live performances as well, along with other artists.

CMT.com reports that included in the line- up are violist Joshua Bell and Kym Johnson, winner of Dancing with the Stars.  Bands such as Twisted Sister, Collective Soul, Stryper, Honor Society, Alexa Ray Joel, Kate Voegele, Tamela Mann and the Monsignor Donovan Choir are also involved.

As for Billy Ray, he’ll be heading abroad three days later.  On December 13, the Hannah Montana actor will be flying to Iraq to perform for U.S. soldiers serving in the war-torn country.  According to Contact Music, he will be singing several of his seasonal hits to help lift the spirits of the troops.

“I leave for Iraq on December 13 and I’ll try to spread a little Christmas cheer to our troops,” Billy Ray Cyrus explained.

It’s truly remarkable to see the stars doing what they can for the sake of others, especially since it’s the holidays and all.  Maybe he’ll even take Miley Cyrus along, to get her under the radar for once.  Then again, that’s unlikely since she’s busy touring Europe for gigs.  They can always try next year anyway.
