Fans have been waiting to meet the Whisperers on The Walking Dead forever. But have we already met them? There are some theories that the next big bad from the comics has already shown up on the show.
The biggest theory? The Scavengers are really the Whisperers and Jadis is the leader of the Whisperers. Questions about Jadis have been swirling ever since Rick and the gang met her and the Scavengers at the junkyard.
Jadis and her group at the junkyard are definitely interesting. They’re all very regimented and seem to speak in their own language. They, of course, had formed an alliance with Rick to fight Negan, but double-crossed him at the end of season 7 and revealed they were really working with Negan. Jadis and the Scavengers escaped during the battle at the end of season 7, but we haven’t seen the last of them. Jadis will definitely be back for season 8.
In fact, some fans believe that the Scavengers will become the Whisperers and that Jadis will become the Alpha. And Pollyanna McIntosh didn’t exactly discredit the theory. When ComicBook asked her about it, she simply said, “Anything is possible.”
“I think you know, in a very diplomatic, politician type of way, I can say I think anything is possible in this universe we’re inhabiting right now, and that’s one of the really strong points of the show because I’m not going to tell you anything!” she said.

So who are the Whisperers? In the comics, the Whisperers are a group of survivors that cover themselves in Walker skin and walk with the Walkers in order to blend in with them. They’re very territorial and kill other survivors. And like Jadis’ Scavengers, they’re highly organized.
The Whisperers and Rick’s group come into contact a lot in the comics. Carl even gets close to the Alpha’s daughter Lydia.
Of course, Rick and the gang end up going to war with the Whisperers in the comics. After the war with Negan, Negan goes missing and comes back with the Alpha’s head. This sparks the Whisperers to attack Alexandria and the Hilltop.
Obviously, the TV show has deviated from the comics in the past. But it would be interesting to see Jadis becoming the Alpha and how her alliance with Negan deteriorates if he does spark the war by killing her.
