There’s no question that the television program Project Runway is a success. It’s developed a strong following through its first three seasons, and if our BuddyTV commenters are any indiciation, fans are eagerly anticipating the fourth season that will start in December.
And it’s not just the general public loving the show; for the third year in the row, the show has been recognized by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with a nomination for the Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
However, the individual designers themselves aren’t necessarily having quite the same stratospheric level of success. And now, Heidi Klum herself admits that will, once again, not be wearing a Project Runway frock when walking down the red carpet in September.
Her reason for not supporting the very Project Runway designers who helped give her a reason to be on the red carpet in the first place? Call it once burned, twice shy. She says, “I tried that once. The very first time I got nominated, I asked the winner of the first season, Jay McCarroll, to design something. He had all these great ideas, and then designed something that was absolutely not appropriate.
“It was not an evening red carpet thing for the Emmys – it was like an MTV/Halloween costume! I could not have gone that way. At the end of the day, I said no.”
Although there’s never any difficulty for a beautiful celebrity to find a wide array of dresses offered up for red carpet events, if Heidi Klum can’t borrow one, she can certainly afford to buy one. She was just listed as number three of Forbes’ list of richest supermodels, just behind Kate Moss, who made $9 million, but both were far behind Gisele Bundchen who made a whopping $33 million.
Klum made a respectable $8 million, enough to outfit herself for the Emmy ceremony however she likes, even if that means shunning the designs of her fellow Project Runway stars.
