Actor Ernie Hudson, a veteran of Oz and Desperate Housewives, is the newest addition the expanding cast of Heroes season 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Though producers are keeping his storyline under wraps, it has been revealed that he’ll be playing a Baltimore detective named Captain Lubbock and will be on the hunt for one of the characters on the show.
I have nothing against Hudson joining the cast of Heroes as he has already proven his police work as a detective in a recurring role on ABC’s Desperate Housewives and as a senior deputy on the dramedy 10-8: Officers on Duty. But it’s quite obvious that Heroes is trying to woo viewers by bringing in a bunch of new faces and guest stars this season, in attempt to convince fans that the show will eventually return to its former glory.
So far, we already have Deanne Bray as a deaf love interest for one of the main characters, Madeline Zima as the edgy outsider who’ll spend college life with Claire, Ray Park as one of the colorful characters at the center of the show’s Carnivale-esque storyline, Ricky Worthy as Matt Parkman’s new partner, Rachel Melvin as Annie, the controversial character who will share sleeping quarters and maybe more with Claire, and finally, Robert Knepper as Samuel the “Carnival Barker.”
Can the arrival of these new characters save Heroes from its troubled state? Probably not, but the addition of actors like Knepper, who has already proven his wicked acting chops as Prison Break‘s T-Bag, has certainly left me intrigued and hopeful enough to stay tuned and give Heroes another shot—for the last time. Still, it’s a completely different story now that writer Bryan Fuller, the man who was supposed to bring redemption to Heroes, has left the building.
