Appliance manufacturer Emerson filed a suit against NBC seeking to block the re-airing of the Heroes pilot. In the episode, a teenager with spontaneous healing abilities, sticks her hand into a running garbage disposal, (see also ‘Heroes Gores it Up’), pulling back some mangled digits which quickly correct themselves.
Emerson’s best bet in the suit is the un-endorsed product placement, yet the company seems to be more concerned with the portrayal of their garbage shredding device stating in their suit that the scene “casts the disposer in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product by suggesting that serious injuries will result in the event consumers were to accidentally insert their hand into one.”
I don’t think I’ll be sticking my hand in any running garbage disposals to try to prove them wrong.
