After 8 seasons, dozens of critically ill patients and more pills than any one person should be able to survive, House will reach its series finale on Monday, May 21. What can we expect from the end of House? Keep reading to find out!
What FOX is willing to tell us
FOX is obviously trying to keep its secrets with regard to the House series finale. But they are letting a few details out. One such detail is the official episode synopsis for the two-hour House finale event.
The first hour, “Swan Song,” is a look back at all 8 seasons of House:
The special two-hour HOUSE Series Finale event kicks off with a one-hour retrospective special that will look back at this groundbreaking, seminal series and feature interviews with the series’ stars and producers, special original content and other surprises.
That’s nice and all, but it’s the House series finale, “Everybody Dies,” that is of interest to most fans:
In the emotional series finale, directed by series creator and executive producer David Shore, treating a drug addict patient (guest star James LeGros) results in House examining his life, his future and his own personal demons.
Does this mean House is going to change? Is he going to at least try to change? Or will something come up before he can or will? With a title like “Everybody Dies,” the possibility for change does seem a little slim.
Although it would be odd if everybody on House did indeed die in the series finale, it would also be very, very interesting.
Who will return for the House series finale?
Several former House stars are expected to return for the show’s season 8 finale. Some of them are obvious choices. Some of them, not so much.
Kal Penn, who played Dr. Kutner until that character’s season 5 suicide, has reportedly been in talks to return. It is unclear how the character might return, being dead and all, but the possibility still exists.
A more reasonable return is Olivia Wilde, who is scheduled to return to House in the penultimate season 8 episode, “Holding On.” Wilde’s character of Thirteen will appear in the House series finale as well.
The final returning character known so far is Martha Masters, played by Amber Tamblyn (first reported by TVLine). Masters recurred on House throughout most of season 7 but has thus far been absent from season 8.
The House series finale, “Everybody Dies,” will air on Monday, May 21 from 8-10pm on FOX.
