One of the few truly enjoyable multi-camera comedies on TV today, How I Met Your Mother returns for a third season to anchor CBS’s Monday night comedy lineup. The show is a series of flashbacks from the year 2030: the main character Ted (voiced by Bob Saget) recounts to his son and daughter about the events leading up to Ted meeting their mother, which begin in 2005. The show stars Josh Radnor as Ted, Jason Segel as his best friend Marshall, Alyson Hannigan as Lily, Cobie Smulders as Robin and Neil Patrick Harris as Barney.
Last season ended with the wedding of Marshall and Lily, who finally made it down the aisle after nearly 10 years of dating. Also occurring at the wedding was the breakup of Ted and Robin, confirming that Robin is not the mother of Future Ted’s children. They part ways after realizing that their life trajectories are not in sync. Ted agrees to become Barney’s wingman, and the two bros gear up for a summer that should be “legen…” The final scene cut out before Barney could complete one of his trademark lines..
The series was created by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays. The two drew upon their own friendship as inspiration for the characters, with Ted based on Bays, and Lily and Marshall based on Thomas and his wife.
