Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger Goes Platinum
It was only last week that Carrie Underwood‘s latest album Blown Away hit platinum status. And now Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger has also just been certified platinum. RCA Records made the announcement via Twitter: “Congrats to @kelly_clarkson who’s album #STRONGER album has officially gone platinum!”
Kelly may be celebrating the success of Stronger, but she’s already gearing up for her next release: a greatest hits album. This was revealed during a recent Sony UK conference. While we don’t know much about it yet, Chart Show TV tweeted that, besides the greatest hits, there will be some new songs on it as well, and is expected to be released before Christmas.
Kris Allen Departs Record Label
Another Idol has now been dropped by their record label, and this time it’s season 8 winner Kris Allen, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This should come as no surprise, considering his sophomore album, Thank You Camellia, debuted at No. 26, selling only 15,622 copies in its first week. Compare this to the runner-up from that same year, Adam Lambert, whose sophomore release debuted at No. 1 with 77,000 copies sold.
Kris took to Twitter to send a message to his fans: “I wanted to let everyone know that RCA and I have decided to split ways. I thank them so much for everything that they did for me. There are so many people there that contributed to my becoming the artist that I am and I will miss them all. In saying that, I am really excited about what is ahead. The path has never been clearer to me. I love what I do and I will never stop. So, to my amazing fans, thank you so much for everything so far but things are only gonna get more fun. I promise.”
Have you noticed a pattern every time this happens? The only winners to be dropped by their original label are all male. Every single female winner (Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks) remains on board.
