Though America’s Got Talent has been doing well in its seventh season, veteran judge Sharon Osbourne might not return for the next season.
Amidst Tuesday’s final round of the AGT quarterfinals and NBC’s Television Critics Association press tour, one small tweet has caused much speculation about Ms. Osbourne’s future on the show.
“My darling @HowardStern, money is not the reason I’m not returning to @nbcagt,” said Osbourne. But she simply left the message with an open-ended “it’s because…” and never finished her thought.
While this may seem out of the blue, it seems to be in response to another tweet from Stern’s The Howard Stern Show: “#AGT update: @HowardStern isn’t sure if he’ll do another season and says Sharon Osbourne may not come back unless she gets more money.”
This potential news seems surprising for NBC, as Entertainment Chair Robert Greenblatt said, “This is coming out of context and sort of spontaneously, and we don’t even know what’s going on. And it’s probably much ado about nothing.” Greenblatt had no other comments on the matter at the time.
Osbourne has been a judge on AGT since season 2, and according to sources at The L. A. Times, she is under contract for three more seasons. If Obsourne were to leave after this season, she would be following in the footsteps of fellow stars Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who both recently announced their departures from American Idol.
