If you’re a fan of FOX’s Sunday night animation lineup, things aren’t looking so good for one of those shows. It’s being reported that The Cleveland Show has been cancelled.
This doesn’t come as a surprise considering the ratings have not been very strong lately, averaging 3.3 million viewers. Another sign that the Family Guy spin-off is about make its exit is that FOX has already renewed the rest of its animated shows: The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob’s Burgers. Due to the amount of time it takes to produce these shows, early renewals are critical to making sure the producers, writers and everyone else involved can start on time before the next season is set to begin.

Leaders of The Animation Guild posted on their blog that The Cleveland Show has been cancelled, saying, “I spent a long stretch of Friday morning at Fox Animation Studios on Wilshire Blvd. The Cleveland Show, still in reruns, has been cancelled. Which leaves Family Guy and American Dad (which got a late pickup this season) as the studio’s surviving shows.”
FOX has released a statement, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “Only Fox can dictate whether a show has been cancelled.” This doesn’t reveal anything on a decision one way or the other, so we’ll just have to wait for official word.
The current season ends on Sunday, May 19, at 7pm. And if cancelled, it doesn’t mean Cleveland will be completely off the air. It will air in syndication this fall on TBS and Adult Swim.
Speaking of the network’s animation lineup, all this comes on the heels of controversy surrounding a March episode of Family Guy. Boston, and the whole country for that matter, is currently in a state of shock following two bomb explosions at Monday’s Boston Marathon. And FOX has pulled an episode from its website and Hulu called “Turban Cowboy,” in which Peter runs down participants with a car at the marathon.
A fan edited two clips from the same episode together to make it appear as if Peter set off two bombs at the marathon, when in fact the two clips were not even from the same storyline:
Seth McFarlane tweeted his disgust at the edited clip: “The edited Family Guy clip currently circulating is abhorrent. The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims.”
