There is no end date set for Supernatural and there doesn’t look to be one any time soon. This hasn’t stopped the actors from thinking about the end and what will happen when does, in fact, arrive.
As was previously reported stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles have bounced around more than a few ideas. Now, according to an new interview with EW, Ackles has a very clear idea on how he wants it end now. It’s an ending where Sam, not Dean, ends up dead.
Who Is the Real Baddie of Supernatural Season 13?>>>
Jensen isn’t married to specifically Sam, and only Sam dying, in the series finale. Ackles also could see a series finale where Dean bites it too. Jensen doesn’t see a scenario in which Sam doesn’t die. “I feel like I do either want the boys both to die or for Sam to die,” he explained.
Jensen has more than just a feeling plotted out for the series finale. He has even dreamt of the entire finale scene. Ackles said that in his dream Dean was all alone in the middle of America. Dean would take the iconic Impala and park it in the middle of the intersection. This scene would take place after Sam had died in some big event and Dean was left all alone.
“There’s nobody for miles. I get out of the car and I look in the distance — and it’s like Lawrence of Arabia when Omar Sharif was running up with the camel — I just see this thing coming in the distance, and it gets closer and closer and closer and closer,” he recounted. “It’s a guy on a motorbike. And we never really see his face. He’s got a helmet on. But he walks up and I give him a nod, and I take a walk around the Impala very slowly and I walk back over to him and I hand the keys to him. And he takes off his helmet — we don’t see who it is — he hands the helmet to me and hands me the keys to the bike. From his back, he gets in the car and I watch the Impala drive off. And then I turn and I look at the bike that’s got one seat. And I put the helmet on, start the bike, [give] one last look to the Impala, it’s now gone, and I take off. Because I don’t need the extra seat anymore. And I even have the soundtrack in my head. There were no words spoken. I had this swelling score. It was like some Robert Zemeckis film.”

Jensen wasn’t alone when he recounted this story. He was joined by co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. Misha, who had never heard this dream before, told Jensen that it was remarkable how vivid this idea was to him and that Jensen was tearing up thinking about Sam dying. “I can see the emotion in your face talking about it. It’s amazing to think that you’ve lived with these characters for so long that the idea of one of them dying actually even makes you, as Jensen, want to tear up,” Collins said.
Padalecki for his part agreed that when the show finally does finish it will be emotional. According to Padalecki, Sam isn’t just another character for him. He’s a person that he knows and thinks of as a friend. “It’s going to feel like losing a friend,” the actor said of the show ending. “When it’s all said and done, it’s going to be tough. I’m going to lose several friends.”
If the show ends as Jensen describes and hopes it will end, a fair bit of fans will probably feel that way as well. Jensen’s downer ending is not an impossibility for Supernatural however. The show has even told a similar story to that potential series finale. The season 5 finale saw Sam “die” and Dean move on to another life without him, although in this conception of the series Dean would keep fighting where in season 5 he tried to retire into a normal life.
But what do you think? How would you like to see the show end? Do you agree with Jensen that one of the brothers or Sam needs to die?
