While some CSI fans are dwelling on the countdown of Grissom’s exit, others are fixated on some of the new comers this season. Arriving as Riley Adams on the forensic drama’s third episode, which is slated to air on October 23, Lauren Lee Smith sheds light on what it’s like to work with the cast and what’s in store for her CSI character.
Warning: May contain spoilers.
For those who are not yet aware of Lauren Lee Smith‘s character on CSI, Riley is a former St. Louis police officer who eventually became a crime scene investigator. She comes in as a second-level CSI to the understaffed Las Vegas unit, which is still taken aback by the death of one of its own.
“She’s a little bit of a sassy, sarcastic kind of spunky, spirited girl,” Smith, who is credited for The L Word, told USA Today. “She’s spunky — or perhaps foolhardy — enough to take on supervisor Gil Grissom [William Petersen]. ‘She butts heads a little bit with Grissom. [But] it’s done in a very respectful way.'”
“When asked a question, it’s not that unusual for her to have a different story every time,” she added. “It takes a little while for them to figure out who this Riley character is.”
While Riley is bound to butt heads with some of the members of CSI, fans can also look forward to the “brother-sister banter” between her and fellow investigator Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda).
“They’re poking fun at each other all the time,” she revealed.
Initially, Smith was quite apprehensive to join the cast of CSI as a newcomer on such an established hit show. Fortunately, “everyone was so welcoming.” In fact, the show’s technical advisers are also helping her out in adjusting to her new role, something she is very appreciative about.
“They’re there every step of the way, showing you what everything looks like and how to do it, even down to how to hold your camera and your flashlight. You want to look as professional as possible,” she said.
