Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Jin on ABC’s hit drama Lost, was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence. Though the details remain sketchy at this point, Kim was pulled over in the Honolulu area around 3am this morning. He was taken into custody and posted bail soon after. He left the Honolulu police station at a little after 5am and was quickly whisked away, saying nothing to reporters. Kim is currently down in Hawaii shooting the fourth season of Lost. This is the third separate Lost cast member to be arrested for DUI. Former cast members Cynthia Watros and Michelle Rodriguez were booked on DUI charges in December 2005 and both plead guilty to the charges.
Three different cast members; It can’t be a coincidence anymore. Whether the Lost actors are just a hard partying crew or the Hawaiian police force has really cracked down on drunken drivers, this is getting ridiculous. We don’t know the whole story just yet, and when the Breathalyzer results are made public, then we can judge how reckless Kim was being. The real question now is this: will Kim’s character on Lost be dealt the same consequences as Watros and Rodriguez?
Those two ladies were infamously killed off on Lost soon after being arrested. Coincidence or not, fans of Daniel Dae Kim can’t be too happy with this development. The difference between his situation and the ladies’ is that Kim has been a main cast member since season one with a long-term story line to uphold, whereas Rodriguez and Watros were brand new to the team. I’m guessing he’ll be all right, but you never know.
