Despite the doomsy prognosticating that has fallen into fashion over LOST’s ratings, ABC’s once-golden-child has shown signs of a recovery for the second week in a row. LOST is slowly picking up its missing viewership and converting its existing viewers into ratings gold according to Nielsen Media Reasearch. The end of sweeps report published on LOST points out major wins despite what less enlightened factions of the media may have been reporting.
According to the press release from ABC summarizing LOST‘s sweeps performance, its all rainbows and sunshine. Among the big wins for LOST:
- Jumping from its lead-in by 8.2 million viewers (12.8 million vs. 4.6 million) and by 185% in Adults 18-49 (5.7/15 vs. 2.0/5), LOST moved ABC into the dominant No. 1 position at 10:00 p.m. across the key adult demographics. Although CBS enjoyed a decided lead-in advantage coming into the time period from an original “Criminal Minds,” LOST surged to defeat time period veteran “C.S.I.: NY” by +75% in Adults 18-34 (5.6/16 vs. 3.2/9), by +33% in Adults 18-49 (5.7/15 vs. 4.3/11) and by+15% in Adults 25-54 (6.0/15 vs. 5.2/13).
- In all 4 Wednesdays during the 2007 February Sweep, ABC’s LOST stood as the evening’s No. 1 scripted TV program in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic. It was also the night’s top-rated scripted series on each Wednesday in February with Adults 25-54, Adults 18-34 and Teens 12-17.
- LOST grew its Adult 18-34 and Women 18-34 audience for the second straight week, gaining 4% (5.6/16 vs. 5.4/15) and 10% (6.4/16 vs. 5.8/15) week to week, respectively. On both counts, LOST generated its best numbers since its premiere telecast in the time period (on 2/7/07).
- LOST greatly improved Wednesday’s 10 o’clock hour for ABC during the 2007 February Sweep, offering substantial year-to-year increases as a lead-in to Network affiliates’ late-local news. Versus its sweep performance in the hour last year, ABC’s February Sweep numbers climbed by 4.9 million viewers (13.3 million vs. 8.4 million), by 74% in Adults 18-49 (5.9/15 vs. 3.4/9) and by 62% in Adults 25-54 (6.3/15 vs. 3.9/9). On average LOST represents ABC’s most-watched program in the Wednesday 10 o’clock hour in 9 years, and its top-rated among Adults 18-49 in 10 years – since the 1997-98 and 1996-97 TV Seasons, respectively.
If your skeptical, you might be calling this spin, but the hard core of LOST fans have shown no signs of wavering from their mission to keep the show well stocked with viewers. No matter how you slice it, moving up is moving up, and it’s good news all around for LOST.
