Alright, let’s just pretend the “radio silence” thing never happened. Every time we think that the Lost bunch has dialed us out, they leap out of nowhere with a few interesting tidbits to keep us thinking until February. Granted the latest round may not, at first, seem so earth shattering, there may be a few extremely revelatory statements hidden below the surface. For some spoilerish analysis, read on.
The “spoilers” came directly from Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof and were curiously dubbed “leaks” by Sci Fi wire, but who am I to knock a sensationalist headline? The dynamic duo of Lost spoke about a few things that have become common knowledge: flash forwards being part of Lost season 4, Michael (Harold Perrineau) returning, a preconceived plan to deal with Walt’s aging. There were a few not so widely known bits released as well, particularly concerning the flash forward sequences.
The distinction between a flash forward and a flash back will not always be immediately evident. According to Cuse, determining whether you are watching a flash forward or a flash back will be part of the fun. “Moving forwards, you’ll get a mix. Every week will hopefully be a guessing game as to not just WHO will be focused on, but WHEN we’re focusing on them,” Cuse said.
A possible clue to how we will be seeing the mysterious Jacob next may be embedded in Cuse’s legendary command of English usage. When discussing the mysterious phase shifter, Cuse said “Yes, we do know how Jacob will be depicted. Notice the careful wording of my answer.” Depicted, by most dictionary definitions, means specifically to be painted, or otherwise imaged. A purposefully conspicuous clue that we will be seeing a painting of Jacob this season? We will just have to wait and find out.
And while we are on that subject, just when Lost will return is another item that may, or may not, have been nonchalantly revealed in Sci Fi Wire’s piece. The article ends with “Lost starts Feb. 6, 2008.” So you don’t have to check, that’s a Wednesday.
