This is about the last place you’d expect the first new footage of Lost season 4 to be found: ABC announced today that in December, promos for the new season of Lost will be shown at all Screenvision and NCM employed theater chains across the country in front of all movies with a PG rating or higher. The promos will contain never before seen footage of Lost’s fourth season. The premiere for Lost’s fourth season is rapidly approaching. The first of eight finished episodes will air sometime in February 2008. Hopefully, by then the writers’ strike will long be resolved and the second half of the season will have resumed production.
ABC isn’t really breaking new ground in promoting a series using the big screen, but it should be an effective tactic for Lost. Lost is such a visually stunning show as is, but I guarantee audiences are going to flip when they see the island on the big screen. As for the footage, I hope they don’t give too much away. After the events of last season’s finale, I have no idea what is going to happen on Lost this season and I’d like to keep it that way. Not that I ever really have an idea, but the story could literally go any direction and I want to be surprised.
ABC is incredibly confident in the season four footage they’ve seen, and thus wanted it to get seen by the largest audience possible. Screenvision and NCM aren’t theater chains (that’s what I thought at first) but national advertising services that use a number of nationwide theater chains. So, in all likelihood, if you go check out a movie starting in December, you’ll be seeing some of Lost, season 4. I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited. Now, all we need is for the strike to get settled.
