It’s been quite some time since fans have seen Marcia Cross on the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives due to her giving birth to twins in February. But with the approaching season finale, fans can catch a glimpse of her perfectionist and obsessive-compulsive character Bree Van de Kamp, who is set to mark her return with something related to pregnancy. Ironically, Cross comes back to work with a promise of not getting pregnant again.
At the beginning of the year, Cross was ordered by doctors to be put on bed rest due to complications in her pregnancy. This forced Marc Cherry, creator and executive producer of Desperate Housewives, to turn Cross’ real-life home into a set. After witnessing the chaos she created, the 45-year old actress assured Cherry that she won’t get pregnant again.
In line with this, she also considered her being pregnant in her 40s as something irresponsible. Concerned to be a role model for older mothers, she told Extra, “What I didn’t want to do was put out the myth that you can be in your 40s and just pop out kids. I just don’t want to do that. Have your babies younger if you can, which I would have done, but I just didn’t find my husband until later.”
She also mentioned that getting pregnant is something that should be carefully planned. “It’s terribly expensive… It’s a drain on couples financially… It’s emotionally challenging. There’s nothing easy about it. It’s hard. The end result is the joy, but it’s definitely a hard road,” said Cross.
Cross, a native of Marlborough, Massachusetts, graduated from Julliard and earned her master’s degree in psychology at Antioch University in Los Angeles. She appeared on Knots Landing, Melrose Place, Dancing in September, Living in Fear and All She Ever Wanted prior to her inclusion on Desperate Housewives.
