There’s even more drama than usual heading into the Dancing with the Stars season 18 after a possibly game-changing injury on Sunday. According to People, pro dancer Mark Ballas was seriously injured during rehearsals for this week’s finale.
Ballas was rehearsing with partner Candace Cameron Bure for the DWTS finale and, during a lift, his shoulder popped out of place. He was rushed to the hospital and doctors have suggested that he should not compete in the finale, as have several of his fellow pros. However, thus far Ballas is insisting that he will try to perform again, though another partner is learning the routine to fill in if needed.
The injury comes as Bure and Ballas are one of the four remaining couples heading into the season 18 finale. Each pair will dance twice on Monday’s episode, with Bure and Ballas set for a Quickstep and their Freestyle routine. One couple will be eliminated on Monday and the final three will head into Tuesday’s finale where they will dance one last time and find out who wins the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.
This is Ballas’ first time reaching the DWTS finale since season 14 with partner Katherine Jenkins, when they finished second. He has won the Mirror Ball Trophy twice, though the last time was in season 8 with Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson.
Will Mark dance? Find out on Dancing with the Stars two-part finale start Monday at 8pm on ABC.
