Superheroes don’t get to have all the fun on ABC’s upcoming new drama Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Although it’s based on the Marvel comic book universe, the show is more interested in human characters than superhuman abilities.
This is where Ian De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge come into play. Their characters are the resident scientists in the S.H.I.E.L.D. universe, exploring the the science behind some weird and kooky happenings.
At San Diego Comic Con, De Caestecker and Henstridge sat down to talk about playing Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons, and what audiences can expect from the show.

- Henstridge talks about how similar their characters are and how well they work with each other.
- Their relationship is very brother-sister and she says it’s a very fun dynamic to play.
- The show is set right after the battle of New York (which took place in The Avengers) so there’s more of an awareness of supernatural creatures now.
- They talk about how cool the props are on the show and especially in their lab. All the lab equipment lights up and works and even their paper clip holders have a S.H.I.E.L.D. logo!
- Henstridge says her character is fascinated by what normal people would shy away from. “Anything that is a bit gross she loves.”
- De Caestecker says it was great having Clark Gregg around because he’s familiar with the Marvel universe and knows it a lot better than the rest of the cast. “He sets the tone on set.”
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres September 24 at 8pm ET on ABC.
