Cas isn’t going anywhere. Supernatural star Misha Collins is sticking around the hit CW show, maintaining his role as a series regular for season 10.
The distinction between series regular and guest star is negligible, but still relevant. For its long run, there have only been five credited series regulars on Supernatural: Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles for all seasons, obviously, plus Collins as well as Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan from season 3. Yes, those ladies were credited as series regulars, though they each only appeared in six of that seasons 16 episodes.
This will mark Collins’ fourth year as a series regular on Supernatural. He also earned that credit in seasons 5, 6 and the current ninth season. However, that doesn’t mean he’ll show up in every episode. Far from it.
In his first year as a guest star (season 4), Collins appeared in 12 episodes. The following two years, as a series regular, he was in 14 and 12 episodes, respectively. As a guest star, he only appeared in five episodes of season 7 and nine episodes of season 8. This year, despite being a series regular, he will only appear in 11 of the 23 episodes.
Still, the new deal ensures that Castiel will be sticking around to help the Winchesters for another year. Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9pm on the CW.
