The CW announced part of its summer plans today, and the schedule includes a double dose of vampire action on Thursday nights. Starting June 3, repeats from the first season of The Vampire Diaries will be paired with Moonlight, the 2007 CBS vampire drama starring Alex O’Loughlin.
The moves demonstrates that the CW is going after the vampire audience in a big way, and that The Vampire Diaries is the new lynchpin of the network. Moonlight has grown into a cult classic and helped make O’Loughlin a beloved hunk.
The current star of The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez attempted to follow up his success on Moonlight by starring in CBS’ Three Rivers. The cancellation of that show led to O’Loughlin being cast in the network’s remake of Hawaii Five-O, which would air this fall if picked up by CBS.
For now, fans can simply enjoy the fact that Thursday nights will now feature Ian Somerhalder as Damon, Paul Wesley as Stefan and Alex O’Loughlin as Mick St. John, a sexy trio of vampires sure to get your blood boiling this summer.
