After bagging a couple of Golden Globe noms for Best Television Series in the Drama Category and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for Anna Paquin, the hit HBO vampire series True Blood adds a couple of top choices for its sophomore season, which is scheduled to air in May next year.
First on the list is Broadway regular Anna Camp, who is perhaps best known for currently starring opposite Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe in the Broadway production of Equus. Camp will join the cast as a regular, playing the vampire-hating wife of Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian), a preacher from the Fellowship of the Sun Church, the anti-vampire religious sect. Her character was also described as on her late 20s, bright, pretty, very feminine, down-to-earth, and an example of the new “hip” evangelical movement.
Meanwhile, Ashley Jones, star of The Bold and the Beautiful, will have a six-episode arc as new Merlotte’s waitress Daphne, who is, of course, sexy, down-to-earth, not the greatest waitress, but a real country girl.
As for the new season, creator Alan Ball revealed that there will be new romances for Tara, Jason, and Sarah. Meanwhile, Bill and Sookie will still have a lot of issues to sort out, such as the new teenage vampire who’s living in their house. They also get to go to Dallas in a mission to find one of their own who had gone missing.
Moreover, “There’s a new creature in town that is unlike any other. Nobody knows what this creature is, I’m not sure if it will be entirely explained in the show – it’s not a werewolf,” he added
Ratings-wise, True Blood has risen from mediocre viewership to become the third most-watched series of HBO, after The Sopranos and Sex and the City.
