When someone asked the notorious American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, who among the contestants and winners has got “big heads,” Cowell straightforwardly cites Jennifer Hudson, American Idol season 3 finalist, and Taylor Hicks, season 5 winner, as examples.
During a panel discussion on the Paley Festival, Cowell can’t help but compare the two “ungratefuls” with other American Idol contestants and winners who had his vote of confidence from the beginning of their Idol journey. “[Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson] loved him. I couldn’t stand him. I didn’t get it…At the end of the day you have to find a bona fide recording artist. Just because you win the show doesn’t mean you will sell a lot of records. Chris [Daughtry] is the one who sold the albums, not Taylor Hicks,” said Cowell.
According to People, Cowell also emphasized on Hudson’s lack of appreciation, forgetting where she came from and what launched her to where she is at this point in her career, garnering several awards including an Oscar, an Academy Award and A Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in Dreamgirls. “Some people will deliberately turn against the show that made them successful…Jennifer Hudson said American Idol was a ‘stepping stone’ for her. Stepping stone? It was her big opportunity to become noticed and she got noticed and she got Dreamgirls,” said Cowell. “The reason [people] come on the show is because all the doors had been slammed in their face.”
Ultimately, Cowell highly favored Carrie Underwood, American Idol season 4 winner who is now a multi-platinum selling recording artist and a Grammy-award winning country music singer, Ruben Studdard, American Idol season 2 winner and Fantasia Barrino, American Idol season 3 winner, who were all initially outstanding and who all have shown appreciation and gratitude towards the show that established them to fame and stardom.
