One of the mysteries from Supergirl‘s season 2 finale has been solved. The show has confirmed that Kara will face off against comic book villain Reign and that is who was launched in the third pod from Krypton in the final moments of the finale. Not only that, but according to TVLine an actress has been cast to play the villain, Pure Genius and Banshee alum Odette Annable.
Supergirl Season 3: Floriana Lima No Longer Series Regular>>> “Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Odette for years,” Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. “We are beyond excited to have her join our cast in the scary, powerful and heartbreaking role of Reign.”
“Heartbreaking” is an interesting word to use for a villain who is a self-proclaimed “Worldkiller” in the comics. This might be because Supergirl is planning on changing the character for their purposes. For starters Reign will look very different from her comic book appearance where she was very otherworldly and alien. This makes sense too since the season 2 finale seemed to imply that Reign was a Kryptonian like Supergirl and Superman.
There’s a chance that Reign might be a little more human than her threatening name and mysterious introduction suggested. She should be just as much an outsider as Clark and Kara were when they first arrived on Earth. Of course the heartbreaking could be literal and describe what Reign intends to do to Kara’s friends and family.
Odette Annable does have some history that makes her a good fit on Supergirl. The actress recurred on CW superhero mastermind Greg Berlanti’s ABC drama Brothers & Sisters from 2010 to 2011. Current Supergirl recurring star, Calista Flockhart, was one of that show’s stars. Annable is no stranger to intense fight scenes, either, as she got very much into the thick of it in Cinemax’s Banshee.
But what do you think of the casting? Is Odette Annable the right choice to be Kara Danvers’ match? What do you make of Reign being described as heartbreaking?
Supergirl will return for season 3 in fall 2017, airing Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. Want more news? Like our Facebook page.
