Filming One Tree Hill in Wilmington, North Carolina makes things convenient for the actors when other projects come to town. Both Paul Johansson and Hilarie Burton will soon be appearing in productions that were shot around the picturesque area. Outside of Wilmington, Sophia Bush recently shot a film in New York that should be hitting theaters sometime in 2008. All of these projects ensure that even after One Tree Hill runs out of original episodes, fans will still be able to see their favorite actors in a number of different places.
Perhaps the most interesting project is the online sci-fi series IQ-145, which stars Paul Johansson and Thomas Dekker (Heroes, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). The project was written and created by former OTH director Billy Dickson, and is set in Chicago in the near future. After the son of a renowned inventor commits suicide, Nate Palmer, played by Dekker, is recruited by a secret organization to search for the inventor’s last experiment. The series also features former One Tree Hill stars Amber Wallace and Lindsey McKeon, and will debut at IQ-145.com.
Hilarie Burton will have a small role in the film The Secret Life of Bees, based on the best-selling novel by Sue Monk Kidd. The movie is a drama set in the South during the 1960s, and is about a young girl and her older friend who flee their hometown to escape their harsh upbringing. The film also stars Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, and Alicia Keys. Burton will be playing Fanning’s deceased mother in the movie, and will be seen primarily in flashbacks.
Sophia Bush will soon be seen on the big screen in The Narrows, which is based on the book Heart of the Old Country by Tim McLoughlin. The film is about a 19-year-old college student in New York who starts making deliveries for the local mob boss to earn money for school. Bush will play Kathy Popovich, a cool, intellectual young woman who finds herself attracted to the boy and his dangerous life. The movie also stars Kevin Zegers, Monica Keena, and Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent). It will be released later in 2008.
