The season 8 premiere of One Tree Hill (Tuesday at 8pm on the CW) will feature something that has been sorely lacking for a long time: the theme song. For the past three seasons One Tree Hill has abandoned its anthem, Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Want to Be,” but now the show is bringing it back.
However, it won’t be the same song fans remember. Instead, the show is taking a page out of the Weeds playbook and bringing in new artists to offer a different cover of the song for each episode. Weeds did the same thing with its theme song, “Little Boxes,” during seasons 2 and 3.
Already One Tree Hill has booked Aimee Mann, Tegan and Sara, Fallout Boy’s Patrick Stump, Matthew Ryan, Laura Izibor and one of the show’s stars, Kate Voegele, to do covers.
In other One Tree Hill music news, Sarah McLachlan will join Haley and Mia on their cross-show adventure when One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected collide on October 12. McLachlan will be part of the concert hosted by the radio station on Life Unexpected that draws Haley and Mia from Tree Hill to Portland.
The One Tree Hill season premiere airs Tuesday at 8pm on the CW.
