Paget Brewster‘s on-again / off-again relationship with Criminal Minds is back on. TVLine reports that the actress who plays Emily Prentiss is returning for “a whole bunch of episodes” in season 12 of Criminal Minds. The announcement was made by Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer at San Diego Comic Con at the “CBS Favorites” Panel. Paget Brewster also confirmed the news on her own Twitter account.

When speaking about Paget (and Prentiss’) return, Messer said, “We’re excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season. The BAU can use more help this year since they’ve got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch.”
Paget shared in the good news in a tweet (embedded below) where she said: “Yes! I’m shooting a whole bunch of episodes this year Criminal Minds! And it was so damn hard not telling you.”

As you can see from both Messer and Brewster’s announcement the exact stay of Prentiss’ character is undetermined. “A bunch of episode” does obviously suggest it will be more than 1 or 2 guest appearances but it seems short of an actual series regular role in season 12.

Paget Brewster was a series regular for Criminal Minds in season 7 before leaving the show at the end of the season. She returned in the fall 2016 for a brief appearance and was seen earlier in season 9 for episode 2000 of Criminal Minds. This will probably be her biggest and longest return to the show as she currently has no acting commitments besides the cable series Another Period on Comedy Central.
But what you think? Are you excited to know Prentiss is coming back to Criminal Minds? How long do you think the stay will last? How long do you want it to go on? Does this help fill the void left by Shemar Moore?
