Tonight on Project Runway, the final five designers are brought to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There, they choose a piece of art to base this week’s design off of. Rami knew exactly what he wanted, heading for the ancient Greek art, while Sweet P roamed around, taking over 200 pictures. Christian chose to base his design off of a Spanish painting of military figure called Don Andrew De Andrade Y La Cal by Bartolome Esteban Murillo from 1665. That’s a mouthful!
Sweet P settled on the painting, Peacocks, by Melchior D’Hondecoeter from 1683. Rami will base tonight’s design off of Kallimachos’ marble statue of Aprhodite from the 1st-2nd century AD. Chris chose an 18th century portrait of Marie Francoise De La Cropte De La St. Abre by Jean Marc Nattier. Jillian chose Master of the Argonauts, a 15th century painting.
Tensions flared in the workroom on tonight’s episode. Christian, who is always ahead of the pack, offended Jillian when he offered his opinion of her work without being asked. Sweet P panicked when her model was unable to come to her fitting due to a family emergency. Tim is upset when he finds out that Chris has finished before the other designers and has headed to take a nap. Chris refuses to work on his design any further, feeling that it is runway ready.
The designers get a little help when Tim brings in Collier Strong, the consulting makeup artist for L’Oreal Paris, who helps them with their makeup concepts for their models. Sweet P’s model arrives with only two hours left before the end of the first work day and she finally gets to do her fitting. With time running out, Jillian cracks a little under the pressure, feeling like she can’t get her design looking the way she envisioned it. Chris gives Sweet P some last minute tips on her design before everyone heads to the last runway before finals.
After the runway show, the judges bring out all the models. They really like what Chris and Christian have done, saying that Chris has the most artistic design and Christian thinks the most about the show aspect of fashion. Sweet P is criticized for not doing more with her peacock design, particularly for not constructing a tail or something artistic and showy. Not surprisingly, the judges wanted more than Rami’s draping, calling it “predictable”.
Christian is the winner of the challenge, guaranteeing him a spot in the final fashion show at Bryant Park. Sweet P was eliminated and Jillian was named in. When it came down to Rami or Chris, the judges couldn’t choose so they decided to keep them both … for now. Back in New York, the two will present their three strongest designs but only one will make it to Bryant Park.
