We have good news and bad news for all the Psych-Os out there. The good news: Psych season 7 has a premiere date on USA! The bad news: Psych season 7 will not premiere until the end of February.
USA announced on Wednesday morning that the seventh season of its successful mystery-comedy series, Psych, would premiere on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10pm. This long-awaited season should at least be worth the wait — the show’s 100th episode and a special two-hour musical episode are both set to occur this coming season.
Psych is the longest-running of USA’s current original television programs. Although there is no word yet as to whether the cable network will air the entire season in a single block or in two segments throughout the year, season 7 will feature 16 episodes.
What can fans expect in season 7?
Henry Spencer
The biggest cliffhanger to date on Psych happened at the end of season 6. Having just exposed his former co-workers as a ring of criminals, Henry Spencer (Corbin Bernsen) got shot by an old friend. We got absolutely no resolution as to whether Henry lives or dies in the upcoming season.
We can at least assume that the season 7 premiere in February might have some answers to that.
Shawn and Juliet’s Living Arrangements
At the end of season 6, Shawn (James Roday) and Juliet (Maggie Lawson) decided to move in together. Will they follow through? How will it work out?
Gus Gets a Personal Life!
Although determinedly and tragically single throughout most of Psych, Gus (Dule Hill) is actually getting some romance in season 7. Parminder Nagra will recur throughout the season as Gus’s new girlfriend — and thus as a rival for Shawn.
The 100th Episode
The big 100th episode of Psych will have a Clue theme. Yes, the famous board game and 1980s comedy will get the Psych treatment in an episode that features stars from the movie (Christopher Lloyd, Martin Mull and Leslie Ann Warren). Garrett Morris, Steve Valentine and Curt Smith (of Tears for Fears, playing himself) will also guest-star in the episode.
The Musical Episode
You know a show like Psych had to go there eventually. Season 7 will feature a two-hour musical episode. This ode to the world of musical theater will feature original music written by Psych creator Steve Franks and will guest-star Barry Bostwick, Brooke Lyons and Anthony Rapp.
More Guest Stars!
Because this is Psych, random and awesome guest stars are required. Season 7 will feature Katy Mixon, Garcelle Beauvais, Jeffrey Tambor and Big Show (of WWE fame). Cybill Shepherd (Shawn’s mom) and Kristy Swanson (Lassiter’s jailbird girlfriend) will return as well.
There is also rumor of even more Brat Pack stars making Psych appearances. As it should be.
Psych will return to USA on Wednesday, February 27 at 10pm. Good luck making it until then!
