Kim Richards, star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, has checked herself into rehab, Entertainment Tonight reports. Richards, 47, entered a treatment center for undisclosed issues, but has previously battled with alcoholism.
Although she has kept somewhat quiet about her addiction problems to the press, the former child star had a very public fight with her sister Kyle Richards on the season finale of the last season of RHOBH. During the fight, in which Kim seemed to be intoxicated throughout, Kyle accused her sister of being an alcoholic.
Kim has also shown signs of substance abuse throughout the second season of the series, often behaving erratically and disappearing into the bathroom at social functions. Fellow cast mate Brandi Glanville even accused Kim of being “wasted out of her mind” and “on crystal meth” at the infamous Game Night gathering.
Kim took to her Twitter last month to address some of these issues, saying “I’ll be the first to admit that I have struggled in the past with certain vices…I have discussed openly my issues with alcohol. As many of you know, sobriety is a lifetime process, a process that is a priority in my life right now.”
In previous episodes this season, Kim has explained her behavior by saying she was on new medication to treat her anxiety. Fellow housewife Adrienne Maloof’s husband, Dr. Paul Nassif, confirmed that Kim’s combination of medications could be to blame for her seeming impaired.
“When you’re on numerous medications for moods, and you combine them all together, and possibly the dosing may be off, it can cause some of those symptoms of the eyes a little glassy, a little bit of slurring of the words, just looking like you’re not completely with it,” Dr. Paul said on The Wendy Williams Show last month.
At the conclusion of season one of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Bravo informed the audience that Kim was checked into rehab by her family, but checked herself out just a week later. There is no word yet on the circumstances of her check-in this time.
