The Sci Fi Channel has been known to rerun popular sci-fi shows from other networks, such as Firefly, Heroes, and The X-Files. Now they’ve picked up the rights to rerun seasons 1 and 2 of the CBS drama Jericho. The show will make its debut on the Sci Fi Channel with a four episode marathon on Monday, February 11 from 7pm to 11pm. It will begin airing in its regular time slot of Mondays at 10pm beginning February 18. The network will also air the series in high definition on the Sci Fi HD channel.
“Jericho is a gripping science fiction series that SCI FI Channel is excited to add to our schedule,” said Thomas Vitale, Senior Vice President of Programming and Original Movies. “Thanks to the passion and persistence of its loyal viewers who saved this program from being canceled, new viewers can now experience this show for the first time on the SCI FI Channel while CBS continues the story in its second season run starting this February.”
As great as it is for Sci Fi to give Jericho this kind of exposure, I can’t help but wish they had acquired these rights earlier. The second season of Jericho begins airing on CBS on Tuesday, February 12, just one night after the reruns begin. If the network had picked up these reruns months ago it may have given the show a boost in the ratings upon its return, as some curious viewers probably would have tuned in. As it stands, the second season of Jericho will probably be completed before most viewers even realize the repeats are airing.
However, any exposure is good exposure, and I’m sure there are plenty of Jericho fans who will be happy to re-watch every single episode. Just beware of the commercials for the terrible Sci Fi Original Movies. Those can suck your brain dry.
