In recent times, Scientology has become more and more the subject of controversy and criticism, but actor Jason Dohring, who stars in CBS’ vampire drama Moonlight, claims it is actually what salvaged his career in the entertainment industry.
“The misconceptions that occur with people who haven’t ever read a book about [Scientology], or don’t know what it’s about. They’re just taking someone else’s false opinion of what it is,” Dohring explained to Portrait magazine. “Just for me, it saved my acting career. I became a professional through Scientology… I understand acting better because Scientology is the study of life.”
Jason Dohring has come a long way in show business, indeed. He launched his acting career by starring in various commercials, and gradually found himself landing guest spots on several television series, including Roswell, Once and Again and Boston Public. In 2004, he began appearing on Veronica Mars as rich bad boy Logan Echolls, a role that catapulted him to stardom. After the series was cancelled, he was cast as billionaire playboy and 400-year-old vampire Josef Konstantin on Moonlight, which returns with new episodes next month but has yet to be renewed for a second season.
“It’s funny – I always get these characters that I’m so afraid of – I so feel like I can’t… I’m like, this is so not me,” Dohring said, although he also makes it a point to look for roles that will help him further improve his acting skills. “I just try keeping an eye open for new stuff, listening, watching movies.”
Aside from new acting projects, Jason Dohring’s talents have also attracted a growing fan base, for which the actor is extremely grateful.
“I’m a huge fan of fans and it is so fantastic when they write in; I love that,” the Moonlight star said. “You get real feedback and it’s inspiring to keep on your game and keep trying.”
