Showtime is staying in bed with its sexed up Sunday night shows. The network has officially renewed Shameless, Californication and freshman series House of Lies.
Shameless was picked up for season 3. The current second season has seen an increase in total viewers, with the season 2 premiere scoring the show’s highest ratings ever. In better news for Showtime, Shameless beat HBO’s Luck when the two went head-to-head this past week.
Californication is renewed for a sixth season. The David Duchovny comedy received a late pick-up last year when many thought it would end, but yet another renewal ensures that Hank Moody will continue to engage in wild sexual encounters for at least one more year.
The renewal for House of Lies means the show will get a second season. The Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell comedy is a moderate success, but hopefully the renewal will give the show a chance to grow into itself.
It’s no surprise that House of Lies was renewed since Showtime very rarely ends a series after just one season. The last time it happened with a comedy was 2005 for Kirstie Alley’s Fat Actress, and in 2007 the British import Meadowlands didn’t have a second season. However, every show the network has produced in the last five years has had at least two seasons.
Shameless, House of Lies and Californication all currently air Sunday nights starting at 9pm on Showtime.
