Showtime had a busy day at the Television Critics Asociation Winter press tour, ordering new shows, renewing old ones and setting several premiere dates, including one for the long-awaited reboot of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.
The reboot of Twin Peaks will premiere Sunday, May 21 at 9/8c with a two-hour episode. Immediately following the premiere, the next two episodes will be made available On Demand. Twin Peaks will run for 18 episodes, considerably longer than most cable shows and giving fans something to enjoy all summer long.
Showtime also announced that The Affair, currently in its third season, has been renewed for season 4. The drama starring Dominic West and Ruth Wilson will have its season 3 finale on Sunday, January 29 at 10/9c.
The cable network also set premiere dates for two new summer projects. Guerrilla, a six-part miniseries about a love story set against the real-life volatile political climate of Britain and black activism. The project co-stars Idris Elba, who also serves as an executive producer. It will begin Sunday, April 16 at 9/8c.
In addition, the new drama I’m Dying Up Here, about the stand-up comedy scene in Los Angeles from the ’70s, will begin Sunday, June 4 at 10/9c.
Finally, Showtime has ordered two new shows to its roster. White Famous, starring Saturday Night Live‘s Jay Pharaoh, is a comedy that is loosely based on the early career of Jamie Foxx. The Chi is a new drama also ordered to series about a group of characters struggling in the south side of Chicago.
