It was another night of amazing performances on So You Think You Can Dance. Contemporary dancer Derek Piquette sustained a back injury while rehearsing his Argentine Tango with partner Jessica “JJ” Rabone and had to sit out the episode. Although he was in danger, Derek won the fan Twitter Save, along with JJ. The judges sent jazz dancer Marissa Milele and breaker Asaf Goren home. Since Derek had to miss a week of the competition, he will automatically be in danger of elimination next time.

So which dancers did enough to ensure that they will continue on in the So You Think You Can Dance competition? Let’s take a look at who hit a high note with their routine and who should pack their suitcase for this double elimination.

The Best of the Night

Overall, it was a night of splendid performances. When jazz dancer Alexia Meyer teamed with Eddie “Neptune” Eskridge from Team Street to perform a Dave Scott hip-hop number about an insane relationship, I was cautiously optimistic. I was thrilled with the result and watched as the duo danced against a large padded wall. It was dark, disturbing and sexy. I think that Alexia and Neptune are here to stay, at least for now.

Jessica “JJ” Rabone paired up with choreographer Leonardo to perform a smoking hot Argentine Tango. JJ was incredible, and I would have thought she was from Team Stage if I didn’t know better. She certainly deserves to continue on in the competition based on her sensual performance.

Tapper Gaby Diaz teamed with Team Street’s Virgil Gadson for a fun Broadway routine choreographed by Al Blackstone. The piece, which was about two people on a New York City street that bump into each other and wonder how they know each other, was a pure delight. I loved the whimsical style of the number and all the personality that Gaby and Virgil showed off. It was easily one of the best routines of the night and certainly brought a smile to my face. I think that Gaby and Virgil are safe.

Who is in Danger?

Asaf Goren teamed up with Kate Harpootlian for a Sean Cheesman jazz routine. I didn’t buy the couple as part of the celebrity scene at a night club. The dancers had a lack of connection, and for me the number never really ignited. With Asaf already sent home, I think that Kate may be in a tough spot as far as collecting votes to ensure her safety.

Ballet dancer Jim Nowakowski joined hip-hop dancer Ariana Crowder for a contemporary piece about a person’s struggle with depression. Although this number earned a standing ovation from all three judges, I felt oddly unaffected by what should be an emotional piece. I didn’t feel the connection between Ariana and Jim, and for this reason I think that this pair could be in danger of going home.

Although Yorelis Apolinario did a good job with her hip-hop routine with Marissa Milele, I feel like she failed to stand out among the other routines and could be in danger.

In the end, I think that Derek and Kate will be eliminated from Team Stage, and Ariana and Yorelis will be eliminated from Team Street. Tune in next time to see if your favorite dancer will continue on in the competition.
