Are you ready for another night of stellar dance moves and energetic competition, So You Think You Can Dance fans? This show is also going to be chock-full of goodbyes as we say farewell to four dancers. Sigh. We will also see a performance by dance crew Academy of Villains.
Last week, ballroom dancers Brooklyn Fullmer and Marcquet Hill left the So You Think You Can Dance stage the same way they auditioned-together. Still, I must say that I really miss the “dance for your life” solos this season. Nigel, are you listening?
So is your favorite dancer safe tonight? Get ready and grab a box of tissues. This is the So You Think You Can Dance live blog!
We start off with a group contemporary routine that has the dancers donning white and gold outfits with gold masks. The routine, which was choreographed by Stacey Tookey, features some incredible lifts.
Now it’s time for our JUDGES! Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy are joined at the judge’s table by actress Christina Applegate.
Here come some results! This is the last time this season that the judges have a chance to save one guy and one girl from elimination. The bottom six dancers will have to dance a solo routine for the judges, and the top 10 dancers are revealed first.

Next up is the first routine of the night, and the dancers will also reveal what their partner would bring to the top ten.
Bridget Whitman and Emilio Dosal
Jazz choreographed by Ray Leeper
Emilio thinks that Bridget would bring congeniality since she has experience as a homecoming queen. Bridget rats out Emilio and tells us that his contribution to the top ten would be his “potty mouth.” (Yes, really!) This routine is about a demon coming to earth to try and persuade someone to sell his soul. I really like this piece because it is funky and fun. Nigel thinks that Bridget could have danced a bit lower. Christina compliments Emilio but suggests that he watch his facial expressions.
Tanisha Belnap and Rudy Abreu
Contemporary choreographed by Mandy Moore
Rudy thinks that Tanisha will contribute her often present hiccups. Tanisha sarcastically states that Rudy will being his “quiet demeanor.” Hilarious! This number is about seduction, and the dancers portray that very well. Christina gives the duo a standing ovation. Mary lets out her trademark yell and tells both dancers that she “loves them.” I loved this steamy piece.
Solos- Serge Onik
Serge’s solo is full of energy.
Jacque LeWarne and Zack Everhart, Jr.
Paso Doble choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux
Zack states that Jacque would bring her excellent customer service skills to the top ten. Jacque touts Zack’s rap stylings. This paso doble is about vampires, and it is dark and aggressive. The judges even pop in some fangs for this very occasion. Mary loves it, and compliments both Zack and Jacque. Nigel calls both dancers “magnificent.”
Solos- Carly Blaney
Carly’s solo is stunning, and she really seems to be dancing for her life.
A New Project
Step-Up All In, starring tWitch and Cyrus, hits movie screens August 8.
Emily James and Teddy Coffey
Broadway choreographed by Warren Carlyle
What would Emily bring to the top ten? Her business degree, for one. Teddy would bring his rubbery arms to the competition. This routine is about a cat and mouse romantic pursuit. Poor Emily slips slightly, but has a great recovery. This piece seems stilted and I feel that there is a lack of connection between Emily and Teddy. Nigel was disappointed with both dancers, and advises them that they have ground to make up with their solos. Mary agrees that the routine went downhill at the end.
Solos-Casey Askew
Casey’s solo has pep and great athletic moves.
Solos- Emily James
Emily’s solo piece was lovely, but I think it could have been a bit better.
Summer 2014’s Sexiest Stars: TV’s Hottest Women >>>
Jessica Richens and Casey Askew
Contemporary choreographed by Travis Wall
Casey thinks that his new partner, Jessica, would bring awkwardness to the top ten. Casey’s turning ability would be what he would bring to this season’s top ten. This piece is about finding someone who helps you escape from life’s daily grind. This piece is simply elegant and gorgeous, and my favorite of the night so far. Casey and Jessica earn a standing ovation from all three judges, which prompts Jessica to burst into tears. Christina refuses to ever see this duo in the bottom again — period. Mary calls the performance “breathtaking and amazing.”
Solos-Teddy Coffey
Teddy’s performance seems a bit sleepy and low-energy to me.
Carly Blaney and Serge Onik
Quickstep choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux
Serge volunteers that Carly would bring her emotions to the top ten. Serge would bring his ponytail. I am always nervous whenever any dancers attempt this dance. Mary thinks that Serge and Carly did well. Nigel tells the duo that they have done well every single week.
Solos-Jessica Richens
Jessica does a great job on her solo. It is steamy and her personality shines through.
Valerie Rockey and Ricky Ubeda
Hip-Hop choreographed by Pharside and Phoenix
Ricky states that Valerie would bring her tomboy personality along to the top ten. So what would Ricky bring? His Cuban coffee, of course. This piece is about a witch doctor and voodoo doll. Call me crazy, but I think I am sensing a theme this week! I think this piece is fresh, fun, and full of swag. Nigel marvels at Valerie’s leg wave during a side split. He also states that they are a “power couple.” Mary calls it the best number of the night.
Group Number- Females
Contemporary choreographed by Mandy Moore
This routine is about powerful women dancing together. This routine is fantastic, mostly because of the way the dancers move in and around each other. Christina singles out Valerie and Jessica for a special mention. Mary is moved to tears by the performance.
Dance Crew
Academy of Villains takes the stage and kills it.
Group Number-Males
Contemporary choreographed by Travis Wall
This number is about the lost souls of the sea and features a wavy type of motion. It is dark and absolutely hypnotic. Mary calls the routine “memorable and smart.” Christina is moved to tears by this piece and thanks the dancers.
