It’s starting to get real, So You Think You Can Dance fans. Last time, we bid farewell to waacker Lily Frias and ballet dancer Darion Flores. It is sad to see anyone leave the competition, and the cuts will get more brutal as the contest progresses.
I like the addition of the Twitter Save. I think it adds a bit more suspense (and stress) to the voting. So who will give the best performance in this round and who will be exiting the stage for good?
Are you ready? This is the So You Think You Can Dance live blog!
The opening group number features some tropical flavor and the use of fans as props. I am not sure why, but I am not in love with this particular routine. It is choreographed by Reino Hidalgo and Asiel Hardison.
Our hostess, Cat Deeley, reveals that Team Stage won last time based on the voting. Now let’s welcome our judges: Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo and Nigel Lythgoe.

Alexia, JaJa and Derek
Contemporary choreographed by Stacey Tookey
This number is about bravery in its many forms. This piece brings tears to my eyes with its simplicity and emotion. Nigel compliments all the dancers but tells JaJa that he wouldn’t know she was a proud member of Team Street. Paula tells Derek this was his best performance so far and tells Alexia that she is also doing a great job.
Results
Alexia, Derek and JaJa are all safe.
Megz, Jim and Moises
Hip-Hop choreographed by JaQuel Knight
This routine is about being confident and showing that you are here to stay. I like the rawness of the number, and as expected, Megz really shines. Paula feels that the routine wasn’t very challenging, and she thinks that Megz could give even more. Jason feels that Megz lacks attitude, and he feels that the guys didn’t do well.
Results
Jim and Megz are safe. Moises is in danger.
Edson, JJ and Yorelis
Jazz choreographed by Tovaris Wilson
This number is about a guy playing two ladies. I find this routine a bit odd, and it doesn’t come together for me. Jason demonstrates for Edson how to look at both girls and “keep his options open.” Nigel praises JJ and Yorelis for their performance. There is an awkward moment when both Nigel and Jason squeeze in on Paula. Yikes!

Asaf and Marissa
Club cha-cha choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux
This routine is about a star and a groupie, and it certainly isn’t lacking in spice. Nigel doesn’t think it is a proper cha-cha and feels that Asaf didn’t do very well. Paula echoes Nigel’s sentiments about the routine and Asaf’s performance.
Results
Marissa is safe. Asaf is in danger.
Gaby, Ariana and Burim
Afro-Jazz choreographed by Sean Cheesman
This routine is about blood-thirsty animals, and the dancers use canes as extensions of their arms. Ariana and Gaby perform a weird back bend into a lift that is amazing! Paula tells Burim that she “loves watching his package,” referring to his video clip. When she realizes what she says, she is embarrassed. Paula feels that the ladies were “fierce.” Jason likes the performance overall. Nigel raves about the trio.
Results
Gaby is safe. Ariana and Burim are in danger.
Kate and Neptune
Contemporary choreographed by Justin Giles
This piece is about a married couple and how they deal with the husband’s dangerous job. I like the routine and think that Kate and Neptune do a good job portraying the emotion of the piece. Jason thinks that their chemistry “was chilling,” and he also points out that he feels like they are a real-life couple. Awkward! Paula loves the complexity and the emotion that was portrayed and tells Neptune he is one of her favorites.

Virgil and Hailee
Hip-Hop choreographed by Pharside and Phoenix
Who doesn’t love a hip-hop routine about robots from outer space? This performance is one of my favorites of the episode because it is fun and has tons of energy and swag. It also earns a standing ovation from all three judges. Virgil and Hailee stay in character as robots for their critique. Nigel thinks this piece will stand the test of time. Paula calls them “crazy fun.”
Results
Virgil and Hailee are both safe.
