The newest season of How I Met Your Mother has already started with a bang (bang, bangity, bang!). Ted (Josh Radnor) is also refocusing on romance. That mother is not just going to meet herself! Beware, How I Met Your Mother spoilers ahead! This is your last chance to turn back!
Return of the Slutty Pumpkin
Earlier this month, How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays dropped some spoiler information to Vulture. One of the things the creators teased was the reappearance by Ted’s version of the great pumpkin: the slutty pumpkin.
For those of you who might have forgotten, the legend of the slutty pumpkin began in the first season. The slutty pumpkin was a girl Ted met at a Halloween party one year and, much like Linus in The Peanuts, has spent subsequent Halloweens waiting for her to reappear. She never has….until now!
What would a slutty pumpkin costume even look like? HIMYM fans will find out soon because the slutty pumpkin will make her grand appearance in this year’s Halloween episode!
But who would have the poise and gravitas to pull off such a part? Thomas and Bays have tapped Mrs. Tom Cruise herself, Katie Holmes to play the scantily clad pumpkin. “Katie is a lovely and talented actress, which is why we’ve saved for her perhaps the most classily named character in our show’s history,” Thomas told Vulture.
With the appearance of the slutty pumpkin, this year’s Halloween episode promises to be legen…well you know the rest.
Which How I Met Your Mother Character Are You?
Here Comes … Which Bride?
The sixth season finale left viewers buzzing about a major cliffhanger. Sometime in the future, consummate ladies-man Barney prepares for his wedding. But the bride-to-be remains a mystery. Will he be tying the knot with new love interest Nora (Nazanin Boniadi)? Or finally making it official with ex-girlfriend and current pal Robin (Cobie Smulders)?
“That’s the mystery of this season … but we will name [her] later this season,” Thomas told Vulture.
What about the resurfacing feelings we saw Robin dealing with in the premiere? Does this mean that there’s hope for fan-favorite couple Barney and Robin? Will we be seeing a BrOTP reunion?

“There’s going to be a lot of shakeups with Robin and Barney. A lot of fans wanted more from season five and were upset that we broke them up. But those characters weren’t quite ready to go there. This season, people who wanted more of the emotional spark between them will be happy. There are going to be a lot of fireworks,” Thomas told Vulture.
Barney and Robin fans might not want to get too excited though, because there might be some competition from an unlikely source: Ted. As Victoria noted in the latest episode, Ted’s continuing friendship with Robin isn’t working in his favor. Will the doomed two-some give it another shot?

“The notion that Ted is living with his ex-girlfriend, the catalyst for this whole story … is important. So while there’s a lot of great Robin-Barney coming up, Ted’s going to remember why he [fell for Robin]. We’re really bringing it back to the group this year. Ted won’t be dating some other woman for fourteen episodes. It’s these people dealing with how they feel about each other,” Thomas said.
With such conflicting How I Met Your Mother spoilers, it’s hard to know who will be pairing up this season. Will it be Robin and Barney or Robin and Ted? And where does Nora come into the equation?
Are you excited that Katie Holmes will be playing the slutty pumpkin? Who do you want to see Barney walk down the aisle to, Nora or Robin? And are you excited or dreading the idea of more Ted and Robin romance? Sound off in the comments!
