Look, up in the skiy, it’s a wolf, it’s a plane, it’s Superman. Supergirl, which is moving to the CW for season, has announced that former Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin has landed the role of Superman, aka Kara’s cousin Clark Kent.
At just 28, Hoechlin is fairly young to be playing Kara’s older cousin, especially since in real life he’s only one year older than Melissa Benoist.
However, he’s certainly made of steel (just check out this scene of Derek working out on Teen Wolf). For four seasons he starred on MTV’s Teen Wolf as Derek Hale. Interestingly, he’s the second actor to leave Teen Wolf and join one of Greg Berlanti’s DC superhero shows, following Colton Haynes from Arrow.
If Hoechlin seems like an odd choice to play Superman, he does have a connection to the cast. Most recently he starred in the Richard Linklater movie Everybody Wants Some!, where his co-star was Benoist’s real-life husband, Blake Jenner. Hoechlin also used to be on the CW as one of the stars of 7th Heaven, which moved from the WB to the CW in its final season.
How do you feel about Hoechlin as Superman? See how he does when Supergirl returns for season 2 Mondays at 8pm on the CW.
