With over a decade on the air, Sam and Dean have been through it all on Supernatural. There isn’t a problem you can dream up that they haven’t experienced. For two guys just in their thirties, they have the experience of many lives. Of course, that might have something to do with the countless times they’ve returned from the grave. Still, there’s a lot we can learn from the Winchester bros. Here are seven crucial life lessons we’ve learned from Sam and Dean.
4 Changes Supernatural Should Make to Turn Season 12 Around>>>
1. The Little Things Can Get You Through the Day
No matter who you are, life is bound to throw you a few curveballs. How you handle a bad situation is crucial to getting through it. Sam and Dean have gone through darker times than you and I ever will, so they know how to get through it. For the Winchesters, the recipe usually consists of alcohol, wisecrack comments, emotional drives and pie. The common theme they seem to have worked out is that you need to keep doing the light little things that get you through the day.
2. Never Forget the Dessert
Pie is an example of one of those little things that gets you through the day (at least for Dean.) In his life, pie needs to be available at all times, otherwise you can pretty much guarantee an outburst. Never forget to pick this up along with your takeout, unless you enjoy being on someone’s bad side. A spoonful of pie makes for a happy Dean.
3. A Leg Guitar Is Way Better Than an Air Guitar
People seem to love whipping out their air guitar every time a classic rock song starts playing. Dean is ahead of the curve and knows that air guitar is on its way out. Don’t be afraid to let loose when your jam comes on. Use the limbs Chuck gave you and strum your heart out.
4. Driver Picks the Music, Shotgun Shuts His Cakehole
This might be the most important lesson to learn. Especially for whoever’s riding shotgun. If you have the luxury of pulling your chair back and not having to drive, be a little considerate. Let the driver rock out to his or her favorite tunes. Also, try to keep your mouth shut. Your opinion about the song choice is invalid.

5. Death Doesn’t Have to Be Permanent
Death has got to be pretty meaningless to Sam and Dean. In their world, there’s usually some sort of negotiation that can be worked out for their lost loved ones. These guys have literally lost both parents and the uncle who basically raised them, yet now they fight demons side by side with their mother. Don’t sweat too much about dying. You can come back any time you want.
6. Don’t Trust a Sandwich with Two Meats Stuffed Inside Each Other
If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Also, just because two things are good by themselves absolutely does not mean they go well together. The turducken was a prime example of this that Dean learned for all of us. Stick with simple, well-known foods. Anything that tries to get funky like this has to be laced with some sort of evil.
7. Family Don’t End with Blood
They say you can’t pick your family. Sam and Dean say otherwise. The people they care for most are usually not even related to them: Charlie, Bobby, Ellen, Jo, etc. Furthermore, there are members of their family who they don’t feel any obligation to. When your grandfather’s out for blood with no moral compass, you don’t need to feel an allegiance to him.
