When Supernatural season 10 premieres this October, the Dean that we’ve known and loved over 9 seasons will be gone and replaced with Demon Dean. This new incarnation of the eldest Winchester brother will be without guilt, regrets, or feelings about anything.
During San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Jensen Ackles spoke with reporters about Demon Dean’s characteristics, how he played the new role, and directing for the fourth time. Plus, find out what prized possession Dean doesn’t care about anymore. It’s a shocker!

‘Supernatural’ Spoilers: Demon Dean, Dying Castiel and End of Series
Highlights from the interview:
- In Season 9, Dean was a “tortured soul” because of the troubled relationship with Sam and guilt over letting Sam be taken over by an Angel.
- Demon Dean doesn’t deal with any of that stuff. He’s the same guy, but he doesn’t care about anything.
- “It’s scary how little he cares about anything, even himself. Even the car.”
- “There’s nothing funny about this at all. … He’s carefree and careless.”
- 24-7 Demon Dean does what he wants. He drinks, goes with females, sings karaoke. He doesn’t care and he doesn’t care if anyone else cares.
- In a recently shot scene, Dean gets boo’d while singing karaoke and he just sings louder.
- “A lot of bar fights, a lot of booze, a lot of babes, that’s Demon Dean.”
- Ackles won’t reveal the song Dean sings.
- While playing Demon Dean, Ackles said he played the general attitude different. Tone of voice, more smirky, has a little swagger to him. Mental state that he went to.
- Most difficult of four times directing, because he was introducing a new character of Demon Dean. He over-prepared and had all eight days of shooting planned before they began shooting the episode.
- He wrote out every detail so he could prepare as an actor during the shooting. In the past, it was easier because he could clip into Dean easier.
Supernatural Season 10 premieres Tuesday, October 6 at 9pm ET on the CW.
