Cas is back! Supernatural star Misha Collins has tweeted the delightful news that he will once again be a series regular on the CW drama for its upcoming ninth season.
Collins was previously a regular cast member of Supernatural for seasons 5 and 6 alongside Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, but his role was reduced for seasons 7 and 8. This change, however, means fans can expect more of the trenchcoat-wearing angel.
In addition, THR is reporting that Collins will also direct an episode of Supernatural next season, following in Jensen Ackles‘ footsteps. This will mark his directorial debut.
Castiel first showed up in season 4 where Collins appeared as a guest star in 13 episodes. When he was promoted he showed up in 14 episodes from season 5 and, oddly enough, only 11 episodes in season 6. However, once his role was cut back, Collins only showed up for five episodes of season 7 and thus far he has been in five episodes of season 8.
The promotion could mean that the angel storyline will play a much bigger role in season 9 than it has recently. It could also help relieve some of the workload of Ackles and Padalecki, who have spent most of the series as the only two series regulars.
Whatever the reason, more Cas is always a good thing on Supernatural.
