It’s going to be a very long summer while we wait to find out how the cliffhanger from Supernatural‘s third season finale will be resolved. Though we have months to wait before we’ll know how Dean escapes from Hell, we’ll soon have the complete third season on DVD to help us pass the time. Warner Home Video recently announced that Supernatural Season 3 will be released on DVD on September 2, and it’ll be packaged with over an hour of awesome extras. Read on for a rundown of the special features and a glimpse at the moody box art.
As with every DVD set released these days, Supernatural will be presented in anamorphic widescreen and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound. You’ll be able to see the difference in lighting and hear the classic rock, or lack thereof, more clearly than ever. Here’s a list of the extras that will be included on the set:
— From Legends to Reality: Supernatural Effects
— Impala Featurette: A Look Inside the Classic 1967 Chevrolet Impala
— Scene Specifics: Short Segments Showing Creative Team Members Discussing Aspects of Particular Episodes
— Ghostfacers! Confessionals Minifeaturette Gallery
— Gag Reel
— Bonus Digital Copy of the entire season
Out of the extras listed, I’m definitely most excited to see the featurette on the Chevy Impala. It’s about time the third most important star of the show got the attention it so desperately deserves. If there’s one disappointment here, it’s that there’s no mention of any commentary tracks from the stars or creative team. Jensen, Jared, and creator Eric Kripke have provided great commentary on previous sets, and I would have liked to see them give some thoughts on season 3’s episodes.
Supernatural is only the second TV-DVD release to include a digital copy of the episodes as an extra feature. This allows fans to easily transport any episode to an iPod or other digital device, which means you could watch Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) painful death wherever you go!
