The boys from Supernatural just can’t seem to escape the blood and guts.  A few weeks ago we announced that Jared Padalecki has scored the lead role in the re-imagining of Friday the 13th, and now it’s been announced that Jensen Ackles will tackle his own horror remake.  He’ll be starring in My Bloody Valentine, which is based on a 1980s slasher flick that most people probably don’t remember.  The thing that will make this a big departure from Supernatural is the fact that it’s being shot in 3-D, meaning that you’ll get to experience the illusion of Jensen standing right in front of you.

I’m somewhat excited about the reboot of Friday the 13th, as I love the franchise and think that director Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake) might be able to do something interesting with it.  I don’t have quite the same amount of faith in My Bloody Valentine 3-D, if only because it’s being directed by Patrick Lussier, who brought us such horror classics as Dracula 2000 and White Noise 2.  In my opinion, Jensen deserves to work with more esteemed directors, but because I love horror and am a sucker for 3-D, I’ll totally see this anyway.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Supernatural star “will play Tom, a handsome, principled man who returns to his home in Harmony, Montana, ten years after 22 people were murdered on Valentine’s night.  Back in Montana, Tom finds he still is smitten with his first love, Sarah, and is now a murder suspect.”

Sarah will be played by actress Jaime King, who you may remember from Sin City or FOX’s short-lived Kitchen Confidential.  The film is written by Zane Smith, who has no previous credits, but may have written the best slasher flick since Scream for all I know.

The film is set to be released on January 23, 2009, which is just a few weeks before Friday the 13th hits theaters.  It’ll be awesome to see Jensen fighting a slasher in 3-D, but this better not be rated PG-13 or I’ll protest in the streets.
