If you watched any of the World Series on FOX, you were privy to the first aired footage of the much-anticipated FOX series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.  Ever since FOX announced the premiere date and time slot for The Sarah Connor Chronicles (January 14, Mondays at 8pm, before 24) FOX has been promoting the hell out of what the network hopes to be a breakout hit in the new year.  The most common promo this past weekend was the short, Terminator red-eye close-up with a voice over from Sarah Connor (played by 300’s Lena Headey).

I don’t know about you, but I thought those promos were pretty sweet.  They established The Sarah Connor Chronicles as a clear part of the Terminator canon, and they were bad ass.  Footage from Sarah Connor has been available online for months (just check out YouTube), but I’ve been surprised at the number of my friends who had no idea that a Terminator show was on its way.  Perhaps FOX realized this, hence the all-out promotional blitz the series has received over the past week.

Don’t expect FOX to lay off the promos any time soon.  They have a potential monster of a show in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and they know it.  Pairing it with 24 was a great decision, one that should give the series a ratings leg-up from the outset.  The show has some difficult competition in that Monday 8pm time slot, going up against Dancing with the Stars.  However, the demographics for Terminator and a dancing reality show would appear to be quite different.

FOX’s main concern should be getting viewers tuned in the pilot.  I got a chance to see a screening of The Sarah Connor Chronicles at San Diego Comic-Con in July and I enjoyed the hell out of it.  Of course, that may have been a result of the audience (a thousand or so vocal Terminator fans), but the series is a worthy entry into the Terminator franchise.
