The CW’s new series The 100 follows a group of young people who have been dropped on earth 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed the planet. In the April 16 episode, Raven (played by Lindsey Morgan) will become the newest guest on the planet. BuddyTV spoke with Morgan about Raven and Finn’s reunion, what it will be like for Raven to adjust to earth, what drew her to the role of Raven and why it was both fun and challenging to get off the space station.
When last we saw Raven, she was plummeting to earth in a pod that didn’t look like it would survive the trip, but there’s no need to worry.
“Raven does make it to earth,” Morgan reassured, adding that “it wasn’t the easiest ride obviously.”
The challenges for Raven will begin immediately. “She has to literally hit the ground running,” Morgan said. “[Because] she’s got a message to tell.”
A message isn’t the only thing Raven will bring with her, she’s also got something else to offer. “Raven is an engineer and she brings those skills. [Though] I thought it was strange she didn’t bring weapons or food. She did bring herself, which is a pretty big asset.”
While Raven was plummeting to earth, her boyfriend Finn was hooking up with Clarke. He never thought he would see Raven again, but it will undoubtedly make their reunion interesting for him. As for Raven, she will be in the dark a little while about what her boyfriend has been up to.
“The whole reason she went down there was for him,” Morgan said. “So when she sees him she’s stoked. She made it and it worked and he’s alive and she’s still alive. As far as she knows, they’re just going to have a happily-ever-after in a hut. It was really bad timing for him and Clarke to do that, [but] he had no clue that he would ever see me again. Right now Raven is in the dark, you’ll have to watch and see how that unfolds.”
Before Raven made her way to earth, Morgan spent most of her time acting inside on a set. Moving to the great outdoors was both fun and a challenge.
“I loved being outside, but I’m just that person. It was funny because I was in the space station and we do a lot of stuff in the studio. In the suit, I felt so confined. I would just do laps because I would get so edgy and I just wanted to be outside so I could breathe. So when they told me I finally get to earth, I was so excited. Everyone around me was laughing at me and like, ‘Oh, you just wait.’ The first day I got to shoot on earth, it was freezing and it was raining non-stop. We had to have hair dryers at the hair and makeup trailer to dry our hair and clothes in between takes because we got so wet.”
The weather was so bad in fact, it caused a change to the script. “In [one scene] they wanted me to take off my shoes and socks and put my feet in the mud and say ‘Oh earth, it feels amazing.’ But it was so cold they had to cut it,” Morgan revealed. Now that she’s shot both inside and outside, which does Morgan like better?
“I still prefer being outside than inside, but with that also said, when we were shooting in January in the snow it was nice when we get an inside day.”
But it’s not just the weather and being outdoors that Morgan likes about being on the show, she also loves her character.
“It’s interesting, sometimes you get auditions to where you just immediately get the sense of the person and the character. It was the same thing that happened when I got the audition for Christina in General Hospital. Sometimes you just get it. I love Raven. I’m inspired to be like Raven, she’s super-smart, she’s buff, she takes care of herself and her loved ones and is a good person. She’s a little rough around the edges and a little feisty, but other than that she has a good heart and a good head on her shoulders.”
The 100 airs on Wednesday nights at 9pm on CW.
