Many of us predicted this as soon as we saw them on the uncomfortable After the Final Rose special, but it seems — according to tabloids, anyway — that Brad Womack and Emily Maynard have called it quits.
The intensely private couple have not commented on the matter, but their silence has a way of speaking for itself, given how adamantly they defended their love on Twitter and in the news in the weeks following the Bachelor finale. OK! cites an anonymous source as saying that Emily gave back Brad’s ring this week, and called Brad to call off their engagement. Apparently, when it came down to making the big decision to move to Texas to be with Brad, the source says, “She finally gave up and refused. She said ‘I want my life back.'”
Life & Style says the split happened a few weeks ago — April 9, to be exact, though they aren’t so exact with their source on the matter. Their “insider” says Emily was upset when Brad put an offer on a house without consulting her, and questioned whether Brad really was husband material: “She obviously feels that it isn’t the behavior of someone who plans to be with her.” They also float a rumor about Brad cheating. From their story:
“Brad seemed very complacent all of a sudden,” says the insider. “He did everything he could to woo and charm Emily on the show, and then it just slowed. Emily knows he likes Texas, he likes his bars and booze, so she’s just wondering if he likes someone else. It started to really worry Emily. She felt like, ‘If he’s not wanting to see her, who is he with?'”
Perhaps more telling than these nameless quotes is the fact that ABC told Lifeline Live, “we have no comment on the matter.” Plus, Brad shut down his Twitter account a couple weeks ago, and there has been zero mention of Womack or their engagement on Emily’s Twitter account in weeks.
All signs are pointing to a breakup, so the question now is how the couple, and their perpetual third wheel, ABC, will elect to officially announce the split. My guess? ABC will probably attempt to get Emily to reconsider and work things out with Womack for a little while longer. If this second intervention doesn’t take, they will probably announce the split to a big mag like People — or wait until the May 23 premiere of The Bachelorette.
Sad news, but not very surprising. What do you think of it, Bachelor-heads?
