Brenda Leigh Johnson is getting ready to close her last case. Today TNT announced its hit drama The Closer will come to an end after its upcoming seventh season.
The end of The Closer marks a new chapter in TNT’s book. The series helped put the network on the map with huge ratings, leading to TNT’s very successful original series lineup including shows like the new hit Rizzoli and Isles.
The new also comes less than four months after Kyra Sedgwick finally won her first Emmy for the title role as a sweet but tenacious deputy chief who always gets a confession.
The Closer is currently in its sixth season with new episodes airing Mondays at 9pm through January 3. The seventh and final season will air sometime in 2011 and consist of 15 episodes. This will bring the show’s total to 103, a very impressive total for a cable drama.
It’s certainly going to be hard to imagine TNT without The Closer, but for more than six years of excellence, all I can say to The Closer is: Thank you. Thank you so much.
