The CW is tweaking its spring schedule and now fans will get to see the final season of The Originals a bit earlier. The Vampire Diaries spin-off has been moved from Fridays to Wednesdays and will now premiere Wednesday, April 18 at 9/8c following Riverdale.

The move means that freshman dramedy Life Sentence, which has been struggling in the ratings, will be moved to Fridays. The Lucy Hale series will have one more Wednesday episode on April 4, but it moves to Fridays at 9/8c starting April 27 once Jane the Virgin ends its season.
The decision is clearly a sign that the CW has little or no faith in Life Sentence and all but assures its cancellation. The changed schedule means that Jane the Virgin will still air its season 4 finale on April 20, but now in its regular 9/8c time slot instead of an hour earlier to make room for The Originals. In addition, the move means that Dynasty‘s season 1 finale moves up a week to May 11.

With Valor failing in the Fall and both Dynasty and Life Sentence getting moved from Wednesdays to Fridays, it hasn’t been a particularly good season for new CW shows. With the network expanding to six nights in Fall 2018, this is probably great news for the renewal chances of Black Lightning and even better news for all of the networks new pilots in consideration.
