After ending season 6 with a particularly contentious (and violent) reunion, season 7 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta starts fresh with a new look to the cast.
Joining Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore, NeNe Leakes and Phaedra Parks is newcomer Claudia Jordan, a friend of Kenya’s. Thank goodness, because if season 7 goes anything like season 6, Kenya will need an ally!
In smaller roles this season will be Porsha Williams and new “friend of the Housewives” Demetria McKinney.
But first, let’s get back to the Atlanta ladies we know and love and see what they’ve been up to.

Different Strokes for Different Folks
NeNe is hosting Cirque du Soleil’s sexy new show Zumanity in Las Vegas. “I’m a performer,” says NeNe. “I act, I sing, I dance, I run businesses, I’m a mogul! Honey, I’m everything!”
Good to see NeNe’s still humble!
Kandi and Todd are now married, and Todd’s 18-year-old daughter, Kaela, is moving in with them. Todd wants to give Kaela a Honda. Kandi thinks Kaela needs a Range Rover.
They are also possibly trying to have a baby, but Kandi offhandedly remarks that Todd is shooting blanks while a photo of Mama Joyce sits on the nightstand silently judging them.
Dear Bravo, please don’t let Mama Joyce be a storyline this season. Last season was enough. Thanks!
Apollo’s Big Day
It’s the day of Apollo’s sentencing for his fraud and identity theft case. Like any good wife, Phaedra has fled to a hotel with the kids and is refusing to attend court with him.
Apollo is understandably pissed, but can you really blame her?
Apollo is just embarrassing. Phaedra works her butt off at approximately 17 different careers. All Apollo had to do was sit at home, mind the children and stay out of trouble. Apparently, that was too much for him to handle.
“I didn’t get married to have all this kind of drama,” says Phaedra. Spoiler alert: they are currently getting a divorce!
As Apollo sobs to his half-brother at home, Phaedra speaks the harsh reality to her mom.
“Apollo is a big boy,” says Phaedra. “He makes his own decisions and he will have to deal with his choices today alone.”

New Alliances
Kenya has just returned home from a three-month jaunt around the world. It’s been rough recovering from Porsha’s “attack,” apparently. Oh, please.
Cynthia tries to comfort Kenya. She reveals that without NeNe in her life, she is doing better than ever.
On the other hand, Porsha is busy not caring about Kenya. She’s too busy doing scantily-clad photo shoots and gabbing with Kandi.
Speaking of scantily-clad photo shoots, one of the scenes in Zumanity is an orgy. NeNe isn’t very comfortable with this part of the show, nor does she even understand what an orgy is.
Gregg seems a little kinky; I bet he’ll be able to explain it to her.
Post-Sentencing Buzz
The judge sentences Apollo to eight years in prison. The news ripples through the rest of the Housewives. Cynthia can’t believe that Phaedra wasn’t at the courthouse for the sentencing.
Phaedra is unconcerned, saying that she will do an amazing job as a single parent.
Kandi and Todd don’t know what to make of the Apollo/Phaedra situation. Kandi is especially confused when Apollo shows up at her house after the sentencing. Shouldn’t he be at home spending time with his children?
Peter surprises Cynthia with a picnic lunch at work. These two seem to be doing well, which Cynthia repeatedly attributes to the fact that she is no longer friends with NeNe.
Peter proposes a new business opportunity to Cynthia. Just say no, Cynthia! See above regarding Apollo.
Kandi visits Phaedra in her penthouse suite to discuss the sentencing. Kandi reminds Phaedra that even Hillary Clinton stood by Bill during the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Phaedra points out that Hillary Clinton didn’t have two young children at the time that she was trying to teach right versus wrong.
Phaedra Returns Home
Phaedra finally returns home to an incensed Apollo. Watching baby Dylan hesitate before going to Apollo is heartbreaking.
Apollo tells Phaedra that she should have been there to support him. Phaedra answers that she prayed for him, which Apollo doubts.
“I don’t want to be in this relationship no more,” says Apollo. “I don’t. I’m going to talk to a divorce counsel and I’m gonna go my own way.”
“If that is what he truly wants, then bon voyage,” says Phaedra in her confessional.
Next week, Mama Joyce makes an appearance, plus Kenya gets together for a chat with Apollo. Has she really not learned her lesson?!
